Roll-off dumpster rental in Taylor

Approx. 4 road miles southwest of the yard, around 8 minutes.

Taylor is approx. 4 road miles southwest of the yard, around 8 minutes. Same-day or next-day when availability allows; call early in the day for the best chance of same-day. Taylor is a borough of 6,294 at the 2020 Census.

The Borough collects residential refuse itself, and residents use the Municipal Collection Service for household refuse, leaf and yard waste from their homes (§ 148-27); that article covers homes only, not commercial properties (§ 148-32). Taylor also bars placing refuse on a property in the Borough that was generated outside it (§ 148-28). We found no Borough hauler licence and no dumpster or street-placement permit in its refuse or streets chapters — which isn't the same as there being none.

Local knowledge

Getting our bearings in Taylor

Knowing a town properly is the difference between covering it and showing up with the right box.

  • Borough collects from homes — household refuse, leaf and yard waste go through the Municipal Collection Service (§ 148-27).
  • Commercial is separate — the refuse article covers homes only, not commercial properties (§ 148-32).
  • No outside refuse — refuse generated outside the Borough may not be placed on property in Taylor (§ 148-28).
  • Road closures — the Borough's Road Closure Permit needs the Police Chief's and the Borough Fire Chief's approval.
  • Yard waste on Mondays — picked up each Monday; plastic bags aren't allowed for yard waste.
  • Colliery country — in 2010 DEP's Bureau of Abandoned Mine Reclamation finished reclaiming 85 acres of the former Taylor Colliery site.

What comes out of Taylor properties

Taylor's Borough service is for household refuse and yard waste from homes, it doesn't cover commercial properties (§ 148-32), and we found no Borough drop-off for construction debris. A remodel, a roof or a big clean-out is container work. Small clean-outs, light renovations and yard debris fit a 10 (about 3 pickup loads); medium residential and commercial projects, renovations and yard work a 15 (4 to 5 loads); roofing, remodeling and larger home projects a 20 (about 6); large clean-outs, bulky waste and commercial jobs a 30 (about 9); and major construction and demolition a 40 (about 12). Concrete, dirt and other heavy materials go only in the smaller containers, a 10 or a 15, because of weight restrictions. Most rentals come with a standard rental period of up to 7 days. Need longer? Call (570) 354-0618 and we can extend it for a small additional fee. Finished early? Just call and we'll schedule a prompt pickup.

What goes in: wood, drywall, tile and flooring; furniture and general household junk; yard debris and branches; roofing shingles; and small appliances. What doesn't: paint, solvents or oils; tires; batteries; hazardous chemicals; gas cylinders or propane tanks; medical waste; asbestos; and appliances containing refrigerants — that's our own list. Pennsylvania law adds electronics: under the Covered Device Recycling Act, DEP says “no person may dispose of a covered device or any of its components with their municipal waste” — desktop and laptop computers, computer monitors, computer peripherals and televisions. If you're unsure about an item, call us before loading it. Our what can and can't go in a dumpster in Pennsylvania guide covers the rest. Taylor picks up yard waste each Monday, and the Borough doesn't allow plastic bags for it. Oil-based paint, automotive fluids, batteries and propane tanks have a public route: Lackawanna County's household hazardous waste event, for county residents only, with pre-registration required — the 2026 event is Saturday, October 31, at The Pavilion at Montage Mountain, 1000 Montage Mountain Rd. The County's Environmental Sustainability office is 570-963-2017.

Permits, placement and who may haul in Taylor

Who may haul: Taylor's Chapter 148 (Ord. 3-2011) has the Borough collect, convey and dispose of residential refuse, and residents use the Municipal Collection Service for collectable refuse, leaf and yard waste from their homes and no other means (§ 148-27); the article applies to homes only, not to commercial properties (§ 148-32). No one may place refuse generated outside the Borough on property in Taylor, with fines of $200 to $600 per violation (§§ 148-28, 148-29). We found no Borough hauler licence or exclusive contract. We read the code through its online code host, so it's paraphrased. Statewide, DEP says Act 90 of 2002 “requires all waste transportation vehicles (trucks, truck tractors, or combinations with a registered gross vehicle weight greater than 17,000 lbs., and trailers with a registered gross vehicle weight greater than 10,000 lbs.) transporting municipal or residual waste to waste processing or disposal facilities in Pennsylvania to have a valid Waste Transporter Authorization”, and no processing or disposal facility may accept waste from a vehicle without a current authorization sticker (27 Pa.C.S. § 6206(a)). We're licensed & insured.

In the street: Taylor's streets chapter covers excavation, pave cuts and snow, with no dumpster section, and the Borough's Road Closure Permit — approved by the Police Chief and the Borough Fire Chief — doesn't mention dumpsters. Public Works says objects placed in the Borough right-of-way will be removed and the resident cited; that notice is about parking-space savers. We found no Borough permit written for a dumpster on a borough street; we check with the Borough before a street placement. The Borough is at 122 Union Street, (570) 562-1400. Driveway first. You don't need to be home as long as we have clear instructions on where to place the dumpster and the drop-off area is accessible and free of vehicles or obstacles. Allow about 60 feet of clear space for the truck and about 25 feet of overhead clearance from trees and power lines. Our dumpsters are about 7.5 feet wide — about 14 feet long for a 10-yard, 16 feet for a 15-yard and 22 feet for a 20-yard and up. We take precautions to protect your property during delivery and pickup, and for added protection you can put plywood or boards under the dumpster's wheels.

State highways: Pennsylvania's State Highway Law says “No person, municipality or municipality authority shall open a driveway onto a State highway or open the surface of or occupy a State highway without a permit” (§ 420(b)(2)), and PennDOT handles those as highway occupancy permits. So a container never goes in the right-of-way of I-81, I-476, US-6, US-11, PA-307, PA-347 or any other state route — beside one, it goes on private property.

Covered loads: Pennsylvania law says “Every load of loose, nonbaled garbage, waste, refuse or rubbish being transported through or within this Commonwealth shall be transported in a vehicle with four solid sides and with a cover or top of a type to prevent any of the load from escaping. The cover or top shall remain tightly in place going to a disposal site. The load shall be no higher than the solid sides of the vehicle.” (75 Pa.C.S. § 4903(c.1)). Keep debris below the top rim — overfilled dumpsters can't be safely transported.

Remodel or tear-down: Pennsylvania's DEP enforces the federal asbestos NESHAP rules, and where a project is subject to them, “a minimum ten-working-day notification of the project is required to be made to DEP.” DEP adds that it “does not regulate the removal of ACM from private residences unless the residence is an apartment with five or more units.” Check with DEP before a demolition or a big renovation starts. Asbestos never goes in our containers — tell us if an inspection finds any.

How it works

Booking a dumpster in Taylor

Booking a container here takes one phone call and about five minutes.

  1. Step 1: Call and tell us the job

One short conversation. We ask the address and the place - the rules follow the city or borough the property is in - what you are clearing, whether a cleanout, a renovation, a roof, a yard or a job site, what is going in, roughly how much there is, and how much room the driveway or lot gives us.

  2. Step 2: We size it and quote it flat

We recommend the right size, so you do not pay for space you will not use or need another haul, and you get one clear flat-rate price that covers delivery, pickup, disposal within the weight limit and the standard rental period of up to 7 days. If it is concrete, shingles or dirt, we say up front that weight decides the size. If the place needs a permit or has its own rules first, we check them before booking.

  3. Step 3: Delivered where you want it

The driver sets the dumpster on the driveway, lot or job site where you asked, on flat, solid ground rather than the lawn. Often same-day or next-day, when available. You do not need to be home if the spot is marked and clear of vehicles and obstacles.

  4. Step 4: Load it at your pace

Keep debris below the top rim and keep the problem items out - paint, solvents and oils, fuel, hazardous chemicals, tires, batteries, propane tanks, medical waste, asbestos and appliances containing refrigerants. Need more time or a swap mid-job? One call.

  5. Step 5: We pick it up and handle the disposal

Call or text when it is full or the job is done and we promptly schedule the pickup. Loads go to local disposal and recycling facilities in the Scranton area, and metal, concrete and yard waste are recycled whenever possible.

Dumpster rental in Taylor — common questions

Not covered here? Call (570) 354-0618 and ask.

Do I need a permit for a dumpster in Taylor?

We found no Taylor permit written for dumpsters. On your driveway the container stays off the street; for a street placement we check with the Borough first, and closing a road takes the Borough's Road Closure Permit.

Will Taylor's Borough pickup take remodel debris?

We found nothing in the Borough's refuse rules that covers construction debris; the service is for household refuse and yard waste from homes. A remodel or a roof goes in a container. Call (570) 354-0618 with the address and the job.

How far is Taylor from your yard?

Approx. 4 road miles southwest, around 8 minutes. Same-day or next-day when availability allows; call early in the day for the best chance.
