Scranton's local dumpster company

Roll-off dumpster rental across Scranton and Lackawanna County

Steamtown Dumpster Rental runs out of a yard at 1777 N Keyser Ave, Scranton, PA 18508 - inside the City of Scranton, in North Scranton. Locally owned and operated, with one simple aim: make waste removal in Scranton straightforward, affordable and dependable. Clean, well-maintained roll-off dumpsters. One flat-rate price with no hidden fees. Professional, insured drivers who know Scranton roads and access needs. A local person on the line, not a call center.

Scranton had 76,328 people at the 2020 Census and Lackawanna County 215,896. Homeowners call about garage, attic and basement cleanouts, remodels, roofs and storm cleanup; property managers turn over apartments; contractors work renovations and new construction from Clarks Summit and Dalton up the valley to Carbondale. Knowing which of those a call is before the truck leaves the yard is most of the job - along with knowing that Scranton licenses haulers and needs a City permit for a roll-off on a street, that a few boroughs reserve hauling to the Borough or its designee, that Archbald and Jermyn want a permit for every temporary dumpster, and that state highway right-of-way is off limits to containers.

Whatever you are clearing - a garage or a whole house, a job site, a yard full of storm limbs or a rental you want emptied by a crew - the container exists for it. Call (570) 354-0618 and describe it in a sentence.

  • Same-day or next-day delivery when available - call early in the day
  • Flat-rate pricing covering delivery, pickup and disposal, with no hidden fees
  • Careful, driveway-friendly placement by experienced local drivers
  • Licensed & insured and locally owned, from our yard on N Keyser Ave in Scranton

Why Scranton chooses us

Why people call us back

  • You reach a local team, not a call center

Steamtown Dumpster Rental is locally owned and operated in Scranton. The phone is answered by someone who knows the area - a tight drive in South Side, a job site near downtown, a long driveway in the Abingtons.

  • Flat-rate pricing, said out loud

Delivery, pickup and disposal within the weight limit, explained up front. No hidden fees. If your load looks like it will go over, we say so before the truck leaves the yard.

  • Same-day when available

Call early in the day for the best chance of same-day delivery. If it has to be tomorrow, we tell you before you book.

  • Driveway-friendly placement

Careful placement on flat, solid ground by experienced drivers. If a tight drive, low wires or soft ground needs a different plan, we tell you before delivery.

  • The right box, not the biggest

Weight fills a container long before volume does. If a 10 yard is the honest answer for your concrete or shingles, that is what we will quote you.

  • Ready for storm cleanup

Severe weather can bring down limbs and roofing in an afternoon. We tell you honestly when the container can be there, and the 15 and 20 yard sizes take most storm piles in one go.

Simple from start to finish

Five steps, one phone call

Most bookings take a few minutes.

  1. Step 1: Call and tell us the job

One short conversation. We ask the address and the place - the rules follow the city or borough the property is in - what you are clearing, whether a cleanout, a renovation, a roof, a yard or a job site, what is going in, roughly how much there is, and how much room the driveway or lot gives us.

  2. Step 2: We size it and quote it flat

We recommend the right size, so you do not pay for space you will not use or need another haul, and you get one clear flat-rate price that covers delivery, pickup, disposal within the weight limit and the standard rental period of up to 7 days. If it is concrete, shingles or dirt, we say up front that weight decides the size. If the place needs a permit or has its own rules first, we check them before booking.

  3. Step 3: Delivered where you want it

The driver sets the dumpster on the driveway, lot or job site where you asked, on flat, solid ground rather than the lawn. Often same-day or next-day, when available. You do not need to be home if the spot is marked and clear of vehicles and obstacles.

  4. Step 4: Load it at your pace

Keep debris below the top rim and keep the problem items out - paint, solvents and oils, fuel, hazardous chemicals, tires, batteries, propane tanks, medical waste, asbestos and appliances containing refrigerants. Need more time or a swap mid-job? One call.

  5. Step 5: We pick it up and handle the disposal

Call or text when it is full or the job is done and we promptly schedule the pickup. Loads go to local disposal and recycling facilities in the Scranton area, and metal, concrete and yard waste are recycled whenever possible.

Local knowledge

17 communities, one yard, and we know the rules

There is a difference between covering an area and knowing it. In Scranton, City Code § 400-16 requires any hauler that collects municipal or residual waste inside City limits to hold a yearly City licence, with a City licence sticker shown on every truck it lists, and says roll-off containers carrying waste must be tightly tarped or covered the whole way. On a Scranton street, City Code § 400-17 requires a City permit for any roll-off placed on a street or highway; the container needs a flashing light and proper reflectors, and it may stay in the right-of-way for one day only unless the permit holder hires an off-duty police officer to keep traffic moving safely. So the driveway comes first, and for a street spot we arrange the City's street permit or check the rules with you before booking. Four boroughs have rules that come first. Archbald's code gives the hauler the Borough designates the exclusive right to collect and haul refuse (§ 408-13), although the Borough's own page says businesses hire their own hauler, and every temporary dumpster there needs a Borough permit, even on private property (§ 325-3L). Jermyn's refuse ordinance gives its designated collector the same exclusive right (Ord. 08-2024 § 5), and since 2026 every temporary dumpster there needs a Borough permit too, even on private property (Ord. 12 of 2026 § 3(R)). Dalton's code says only the Borough or its designated subcontractor may transport solid waste through its streets (§ 290-7). Dickson City reserves household refuse to the Borough (Ord. 9-2011 § 9), though its definition of refuse leaves out construction and demolition debris, so a household clean-out is the grey area. In all four we check the Borough's rules before booking. Pennsylvania's State Highway Law says no one may "open the surface of or occupy a State highway without a permit" (§ 420(b)(2)), and PennDOT handles anything within state highway right-of-way through its highway occupancy permits, so a container never goes in the right-of-way of I-81, I-476, US-6, US-11, PA-307, PA-347 or any other state route.

Our service area page lists every community we cover, grouped by area, and each has its own page covering access, local character and what that place's own rules say about containers in the street and who may haul.

  • The rules, stated with their sections

Pennsylvania requires waste trucks over 17,000 lbs hauling to Pennsylvania facilities to carry a DEP Waste Transporter Authorization (27 Pa.C.S. § 6204), wants loose waste covered and no higher than the sides (75 Pa.C.S. § 4903(c.1)), bans covered electronic devices from municipal waste (Covered Device Recycling Act), and needs a permit to occupy a state highway (State Highway Law § 420(b)(2)). Every town page gives its own sections.

Dumpster rental in Scranton - your questions

Not covered here? Call (570) 354-0618 and ask.

How much does it cost to rent a dumpster in Scranton, PA?

Dumpster rental pricing typically ranges from $350 to $750, depending on the dumpster size, the type of debris, the delivery location and the rental duration. Our pricing is flat-rate and includes delivery, pickup and disposal, with no hidden fees. If a load goes over the included weight, the extra weight is billed at a clear rate set before delivery. Call (570) 354-0618 for an exact price.

How quickly can you deliver a dumpster?

Same-day or next-day delivery is available in many areas throughout Scranton and Lackawanna County, depending on availability. Call early in the day for the best chance of same-day service. The phone is answered 24 hours a day, 7 days a week; delivery and pickup windows are set on the call, and we do not promise night or Sunday drop-offs.

Do I need a permit for a dumpster in Scranton?

On your driveway, we found no Scranton permit rule for a dumpster. On a Scranton street, City Code § 400-17 requires a permit from the City for any roll-off placed on a street or highway; it needs a flashing light and proper reflectors, and it may stay in the right-of-way for one day only unless an off-duty police officer is hired to direct traffic. For a street spot we arrange the City's street permit or check the rules with you before booking. The Scranton permit guide has the details.

What can't go in a dumpster?

Under our rules: paint, solvents and oils, fuel, hazardous chemicals, tires, batteries, gas cylinders and propane tanks, medical waste, asbestos and appliances containing refrigerants. Pennsylvania also bans disposing of covered electronic devices - computers, monitors, peripherals and TVs - with municipal waste. If you are unsure about an item, call us before loading it.

Will a dumpster damage my driveway?

We take precautions to protect your property during delivery and pickup, and our drivers place each container carefully. For added protection, you can put plywood or boards under the dumpster wheels.

Which dumpster size do I need?

Think about the scale of your project and the type of debris: a 10 or 15 yard for small cleanups, roofing or heavy materials, a 20 for home renovations and landscaping, and a 30 or 40 for large construction, demolition or full property cleanouts. Count the job in pickup truck loads - about 3 for a 10 yard, up to about 12 for a 40. The size guide covers it; the phone call confirms it.

Where do you deliver?

Scranton and 16 places around it in Lackawanna County: Dunmore, Taylor, Dickson City, Throop and Clarks Summit; Olyphant, Blakely, Jessup, Archbald, Jermyn, Mayfield and Carbondale; and Old Forge, Moosic, Moscow and Dalton. Each has its own page with its own hauling and street rules.

When is the best time to book?

Early. Same-day depends on availability, and a call early in the day gives you the best chance. In Archbald, Jermyn, Dalton and Dickson City we check the Borough's rules before booking, which can take longer than a same-day window. A demolition can bring DEP asbestos notice rules, so check them early.
