Roll-off dumpster rental in Dunmore

Approx. 5 road miles southeast of the yard, around 11 minutes.

Dunmore is approx. 5 road miles southeast of the yard, around 11 minutes. Same-day or next-day when availability allows; call early in the day for the best chance of same-day. Dunmore is a borough of 14,042 at the 2020 Census — the biggest place we serve after Scranton.

The Borough's Public Works crews collect household trash themselves, and the Borough says plainly: “We do not pick up electronics, freezers, refrigerators, dehumidifiers, air conditioners, tires, batteries, construction debris, or hazardous waste.” Its 2026 calendar adds “CLEAN OUTS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED!” Dunmore's 2025 recycling ordinance reserves household recycling to the Borough and has businesses hire a licensed hauler, which it ties to the state's Act 90 authorization. We found no Borough hauler licence and no Borough permit for a dumpster or a street spot.

Local knowledge

Getting our bearings in Dunmore

Knowing a town properly is the difference between covering it and showing up with the right box.

  • No construction debris at the curb — the Borough doesn't pick up construction debris, electronics, tires, batteries or hazardous waste.
  • No clean-outs — the 2026 refuse calendar says clean-outs will not be accepted; large items go on Fridays by appointment.
  • Household recycling is the Borough's — recycling from homes is collected by the Borough only (Ord. 3 of 2025 § 9).
  • Businesses hire their own — business and commercial properties use a licensed hauler for recycling and yard waste (§ 6.A(a)).
  • Lids on business dumpsters — a business using a dumpster keeps a lid or cover on it and doesn't fill it past closing (§ 6.A(b)).
  • No dumpster permit found — the Borough's forms list curb cut and pave cut permits, and nothing for a dumpster.

What comes out of Dunmore properties

Dunmore's curbside line is clear: no construction debris, and no clean-outs. Large items go out on Fridays by appointment through the Borough Building, but appliances, tires and construction material aren't eligible. So a remodel, a roof or a house clean-out needs a container. Small clean-outs, light renovations and yard debris fit a 10 (about 3 pickup loads); medium residential and commercial projects, renovations and yard work a 15 (4 to 5 loads); roofing, remodeling and larger home projects a 20 (about 6); large clean-outs, bulky waste and commercial jobs a 30 (about 9); and major construction and demolition a 40 (about 12). Concrete, dirt and other heavy materials go only in the smaller containers, a 10 or a 15, because of weight restrictions. Most rentals come with a standard rental period of up to 7 days. Need longer? Call (570) 354-0618 and we can extend it for a small additional fee. Finished early? Just call and we'll schedule a prompt pickup.

What goes in: wood, drywall, tile and flooring; furniture and general household junk; yard debris and branches; roofing shingles; and small appliances. What doesn't: paint, solvents or oils; tires; batteries; hazardous chemicals; gas cylinders or propane tanks; medical waste; asbestos; and appliances containing refrigerants — that's our own list. Pennsylvania law adds electronics: under the Covered Device Recycling Act, DEP says “no person may dispose of a covered device or any of its components with their municipal waste” — desktop and laptop computers, computer monitors, computer peripherals and televisions. If you're unsure about an item, call us before loading it. Our what can and can't go in a dumpster in Pennsylvania guide covers the rest. Dunmore's yard waste goes out the opposite week of regular recycling, on your garbage day. Oil-based paint, automotive fluids, batteries and propane tanks have a public route: Lackawanna County's household hazardous waste event, for county residents only, with pre-registration required — the 2026 event is Saturday, October 31, at The Pavilion at Montage Mountain, 1000 Montage Mountain Rd. The County's Environmental Sustainability office is 570-963-2017.

Permits, placement and who may haul in Dunmore

Who may haul: Dunmore's Recycling Ordinance (Ord. 3 of 2025) has the Borough alone collect recycling from homes (§ 9), and has business and commercial properties hire a licensed hauler — defined as the owner of a waste vehicle licensed under Pennsylvania's Act 90 — for their recycling and yard waste (§ 6.A(a)); fines run from $100 to $600 plus costs, each day a separate offense (§ 13). It's a recycling ordinance: it doesn't mention construction debris or roll-offs, and the Borough's older refuse ordinance isn't posted online. We found no Borough hauler licence. The Borough's Contractor License form covers general, mechanical and other contractors working in the Borough each calendar year, with certificates of insurance. The ordinance is a scan, so it's paraphrased. Statewide, DEP says Act 90 of 2002 “requires all waste transportation vehicles (trucks, truck tractors, or combinations with a registered gross vehicle weight greater than 17,000 lbs., and trailers with a registered gross vehicle weight greater than 10,000 lbs.) transporting municipal or residual waste to waste processing or disposal facilities in Pennsylvania to have a valid Waste Transporter Authorization”, and no processing or disposal facility may accept waste from a vehicle without a current authorization sticker (27 Pa.C.S. § 6206(a)). We're licensed & insured.

Business dumpsters: a business or commercial property using a dumpster has to keep a lid or cover on it and can't fill it past the point where the lid closes (Ord. 3 of 2025 § 6.A(b)). The ordinance doesn't say whether that reaches a temporary open-top roll-off.

In the street: the Borough's forms list curb cut and pave cut permits, which cover excavation, and no traffic ordinance is posted online. We found no Borough permit written for a dumpster on a borough street; we check with the Borough before a street placement. The Borough Building is at 400 S Blakely St, (570) 343-7611. Driveway first. You don't need to be home as long as we have clear instructions on where to place the dumpster and the drop-off area is accessible and free of vehicles or obstacles. Allow about 60 feet of clear space for the truck and about 25 feet of overhead clearance from trees and power lines. Our dumpsters are about 7.5 feet wide — about 14 feet long for a 10-yard, 16 feet for a 15-yard and 22 feet for a 20-yard and up. We take precautions to protect your property during delivery and pickup, and for added protection you can put plywood or boards under the dumpster's wheels.

State highways: Pennsylvania's State Highway Law says “No person, municipality or municipality authority shall open a driveway onto a State highway or open the surface of or occupy a State highway without a permit” (§ 420(b)(2)), and PennDOT handles those as highway occupancy permits. So a container never goes in the right-of-way of I-81, I-476, US-6, US-11, PA-307, PA-347 or any other state route — beside one, it goes on private property.

Covered loads: Pennsylvania law says “Every load of loose, nonbaled garbage, waste, refuse or rubbish being transported through or within this Commonwealth shall be transported in a vehicle with four solid sides and with a cover or top of a type to prevent any of the load from escaping. The cover or top shall remain tightly in place going to a disposal site. The load shall be no higher than the solid sides of the vehicle.” (75 Pa.C.S. § 4903(c.1)). Keep debris below the top rim — overfilled dumpsters can't be safely transported.

Remodel or tear-down: Pennsylvania's DEP enforces the federal asbestos NESHAP rules, and where a project is subject to them, “a minimum ten-working-day notification of the project is required to be made to DEP.” DEP adds that it “does not regulate the removal of ACM from private residences unless the residence is an apartment with five or more units.” Check with DEP before a demolition or a big renovation starts. Asbestos never goes in our containers — tell us if an inspection finds any.

How it works

Booking a dumpster in Dunmore

Booking a container here takes one phone call and about five minutes.

  1. Step 1: Call and tell us the job

One short conversation. We ask the address and the place - the rules follow the city or borough the property is in - what you are clearing, whether a cleanout, a renovation, a roof, a yard or a job site, what is going in, roughly how much there is, and how much room the driveway or lot gives us.

  2. Step 2: We size it and quote it flat

We recommend the right size, so you do not pay for space you will not use or need another haul, and you get one clear flat-rate price that covers delivery, pickup, disposal within the weight limit and the standard rental period of up to 7 days. If it is concrete, shingles or dirt, we say up front that weight decides the size. If the place needs a permit or has its own rules first, we check them before booking.

  3. Step 3: Delivered where you want it

The driver sets the dumpster on the driveway, lot or job site where you asked, on flat, solid ground rather than the lawn. Often same-day or next-day, when available. You do not need to be home if the spot is marked and clear of vehicles and obstacles.

  4. Step 4: Load it at your pace

Keep debris below the top rim and keep the problem items out - paint, solvents and oils, fuel, hazardous chemicals, tires, batteries, propane tanks, medical waste, asbestos and appliances containing refrigerants. Need more time or a swap mid-job? One call.

  5. Step 5: We pick it up and handle the disposal

Call or text when it is full or the job is done and we promptly schedule the pickup. Loads go to local disposal and recycling facilities in the Scranton area, and metal, concrete and yard waste are recycled whenever possible.
