Roll-off dumpster rental in Dickson City

Approx. 3 road miles northeast of the yard, around 7 minutes.

Dickson City is approx. 3 road miles northeast of the yard, around 7 minutes — one of our shortest runs. Same-day or next-day when availability allows, once we've checked the Borough's rules for the job. Dickson City is a borough of 6,038 at the 2020 Census.

Dickson City's Refuse Ordinance (Ord. 9-2011) has the Borough collect all refuse, leaf and yard waste from homes, and residents use only the Municipal Collection Service for it (§ 9). But the ordinance's definition of refuse leaves out demolition debris, construction debris, car tires and vehicle batteries — so household clean-outs are the grey area. Businesses hire their own licensed hauler (§ 6.E). We check the Borough's rules before booking.

Local knowledge

Getting our bearings in Dickson City

Knowing a town properly is the difference between covering it and showing up with the right box.

  • Household refuse is the Borough's — refuse, leaf and yard waste from homes go through the Municipal Collection Service only (Ord. 9-2011 § 9).
  • Construction debris isn't refuse — the ordinance's definition of refuse leaves out demolition and construction debris (Ord. 9-2011).
  • Businesses hire a hauler — business and commercial properties arrange their own licensed hauler (§ 6.E(a)).
  • No construction materials at the curb — the pickup schedule says no electronics, construction materials, tires or batteries.
  • Spring Cleanup, once — the 2026 Spring Cleanup is one pickup only at each house, by sign-up.
  • Mid-Valley electronics — Dickson City is part of the Mid-Valley Electronics Recycling Program.

What comes out of Dickson City properties

Dickson City's pickup schedule says “NO ELECTRONICS, CONSTRUCTION MATERIALS, TIRES OR BATTERIES PLEASE!”, the Borough's missed-collection sheet keeps set-outs within 40 lbs and free of construction waste, and Spring Cleanup is one pickup at each house. Construction and demolition debris sits outside the Borough's definition of refuse — that's where a container fits. Small clean-outs, light renovations and yard debris fit a 10 (about 3 pickup loads); medium residential and commercial projects, renovations and yard work a 15 (4 to 5 loads); roofing, remodeling and larger home projects a 20 (about 6); large clean-outs, bulky waste and commercial jobs a 30 (about 9); and major construction and demolition a 40 (about 12). Concrete, dirt and other heavy materials go only in the smaller containers, a 10 or a 15, because of weight restrictions. Most rentals come with a standard rental period of up to 7 days. Need longer? Call (570) 354-0618 and we can extend it for a small additional fee. Finished early? Just call and we'll schedule a prompt pickup.

What goes in: wood, drywall, tile and flooring; furniture and general household junk; yard debris and branches; roofing shingles; and small appliances. What doesn't: paint, solvents or oils; tires; batteries; hazardous chemicals; gas cylinders or propane tanks; medical waste; asbestos; and appliances containing refrigerants — that's our own list. Pennsylvania law adds electronics: under the Covered Device Recycling Act, DEP says “no person may dispose of a covered device or any of its components with their municipal waste” — desktop and laptop computers, computer monitors, computer peripherals and televisions. If you're unsure about an item, call us before loading it. Our what can and can't go in a dumpster in Pennsylvania guide covers the rest. Oil-based paint, automotive fluids, batteries and propane tanks have a public route: Lackawanna County's household hazardous waste event, for county residents only, with pre-registration required — the 2026 event is Saturday, October 31, at The Pavilion at Montage Mountain, 1000 Montage Mountain Rd. The County's Environmental Sustainability office is 570-963-2017. For electronics, Archbald, Blakely, Jessup, Throop, Dickson City and Olyphant run a year-round Mid-Valley Electronics Recycling Program together — your borough office has the details.

Permits, placement and who may haul in Dickson City

Who may haul — we check first: Dickson City's Refuse Ordinance (Ord. 9-2011) has all refuse, leaf and yard waste from homes collected, conveyed and disposed of by the Borough, makes it unlawful to collect it, carry it over Borough streets or dispose of it in any way the ordinance doesn't approve, and has residents use only the Municipal Collection Service (§ 9). Its definition of refuse leaves out demolition debris, construction debris, car tires and vehicle batteries, and the ordinance covers homes only, not commercial properties (§ 16), which hire a licensed hauler (§ 6.E(a)). So household clean-outs are the grey area, and we check the Borough's rules before booking — the Administration Building is at 901 Enterprise Street, 570-489-4758. The ordinance is a scan, so it's paraphrased, and the Borough's ordinances after 2020 weren't readable online. Statewide, DEP says Act 90 of 2002 “requires all waste transportation vehicles (trucks, truck tractors, or combinations with a registered gross vehicle weight greater than 17,000 lbs., and trailers with a registered gross vehicle weight greater than 10,000 lbs.) transporting municipal or residual waste to waste processing or disposal facilities in Pennsylvania to have a valid Waste Transporter Authorization”, and no processing or disposal facility may accept waste from a vehicle without a current authorization sticker (27 Pa.C.S. § 6206(a)). We're licensed & insured.

Business dumpsters: a business or commercial property using a dumpster keeps a lid or cover on it and doesn't fill it past the point where the lid closes (§ 6.E(b)). The ordinance doesn't say whether that reaches a temporary open-top roll-off.

In the street and on the road: the Borough's street ordinances cover openings only, and we found no permit for a dumpster on a borough street. A 2017 ordinance (Ord. 4 of 2017) limits vehicle size on listed roads, lets local traffic be exempted and has Council approve over-size permits, but the road list isn't in the posted file. We found no Borough permit written for a dumpster on a borough street; we check with the Borough before a street placement. Driveway first. You don't need to be home as long as we have clear instructions on where to place the dumpster and the drop-off area is accessible and free of vehicles or obstacles. Allow about 60 feet of clear space for the truck and about 25 feet of overhead clearance from trees and power lines. Our dumpsters are about 7.5 feet wide — about 14 feet long for a 10-yard, 16 feet for a 15-yard and 22 feet for a 20-yard and up. We take precautions to protect your property during delivery and pickup, and for added protection you can put plywood or boards under the dumpster's wheels.

State highways: Pennsylvania's State Highway Law says “No person, municipality or municipality authority shall open a driveway onto a State highway or open the surface of or occupy a State highway without a permit” (§ 420(b)(2)), and PennDOT handles those as highway occupancy permits. So a container never goes in the right-of-way of I-81, I-476, US-6, US-11, PA-307, PA-347 or any other state route — beside one, it goes on private property.

Covered loads: Pennsylvania law says “Every load of loose, nonbaled garbage, waste, refuse or rubbish being transported through or within this Commonwealth shall be transported in a vehicle with four solid sides and with a cover or top of a type to prevent any of the load from escaping. The cover or top shall remain tightly in place going to a disposal site. The load shall be no higher than the solid sides of the vehicle.” (75 Pa.C.S. § 4903(c.1)). Keep debris below the top rim — overfilled dumpsters can't be safely transported.

Remodel or tear-down: Pennsylvania's DEP enforces the federal asbestos NESHAP rules, and where a project is subject to them, “a minimum ten-working-day notification of the project is required to be made to DEP.” DEP adds that it “does not regulate the removal of ACM from private residences unless the residence is an apartment with five or more units.” Check with DEP before a demolition or a big renovation starts. Asbestos never goes in our containers — tell us if an inspection finds any.

How it works

Booking a dumpster in Dickson City

Booking a container here takes one phone call and about five minutes.

  1. Step 1: Call and tell us the job

One short conversation. We ask the address and the place - the rules follow the city or borough the property is in - what you are clearing, whether a cleanout, a renovation, a roof, a yard or a job site, what is going in, roughly how much there is, and how much room the driveway or lot gives us.

  2. Step 2: We size it and quote it flat

We recommend the right size, so you do not pay for space you will not use or need another haul, and you get one clear flat-rate price that covers delivery, pickup, disposal within the weight limit and the standard rental period of up to 7 days. If it is concrete, shingles or dirt, we say up front that weight decides the size. If the place needs a permit or has its own rules first, we check them before booking.

  3. Step 3: Delivered where you want it

The driver sets the dumpster on the driveway, lot or job site where you asked, on flat, solid ground rather than the lawn. Often same-day or next-day, when available. You do not need to be home if the spot is marked and clear of vehicles and obstacles.

  4. Step 4: Load it at your pace

Keep debris below the top rim and keep the problem items out - paint, solvents and oils, fuel, hazardous chemicals, tires, batteries, propane tanks, medical waste, asbestos and appliances containing refrigerants. Need more time or a swap mid-job? One call.

  5. Step 5: We pick it up and handle the disposal

Call or text when it is full or the job is done and we promptly schedule the pickup. Loads go to local disposal and recycling facilities in the Scranton area, and metal, concrete and yard waste are recycled whenever possible.

Local answers

Dumpster rental in Dickson City — common questions

Not covered here? Call (570) 354-0618 and ask.

Can I get a roll-off in Dickson City?

Yes, after we check the Borough's rules. Dickson City's Ord. 9-2011 reserves household refuse to the Borough, but its definition of refuse leaves out construction and demolition debris, so household clean-outs are the grey area. Call (570) 354-0618 with the address and the job.

Does Dickson City's curbside pickup take construction materials?

No. The Borough's pickup schedule says no electronics, construction materials, tires or batteries, and Spring Cleanup is one pickup only at each house.

Do I need a permit for a dumpster in Dickson City?

We found no Dickson City permit written for dumpsters. Keep it on your driveway; for a street placement we check with the Borough first.

How far is Dickson City from your yard?

Approx. 3 road miles northeast, around 7 minutes. Same-day or next-day when availability allows, once we've checked the Borough's rules.
